take and give.

I was talking to Nate about how I needed to “give back into the internet.”  You see, I benefit from friend blogs, crafty blogs, pediatric nutrition and medical websites, etc. I take a lot from the internet. I view my relationship with the internet as any relationship- you have to take and give. I provide too much positive content at the moment- but I am going to begin soon to have a Public Health Mom blog. I will answer questions that are relevant to public health and raising children. There are plenty of legitimate sources for health information. However, most of them are looking for an extra buck. They will pick and choose according to the wealthiest sponsor or donor.  Also, many typical news sources aren’t staffed to interpret medical studies or understand the impact of public health programs on a “mom-level.”

I want to give medically accurate and current information on public health topics from a Mom’s perspective. We all have questions and concerns about:

  • Breastfeeding,
  • Medical Legislation,
  • Immunizations,
  • City Water Fluoridation Programs,
  • SARS,
  • International Health,
  • Childhood Obesity,
  • Prenatal Health,
  • E. Coli… in my Spinach?
  • Cancer prevention
  • Etc.

I will also invite Momperts (expert moms) in specific fields to guest blog.

Domain names are hard to come by these days. All of the normal-legitimate-professional sounding ones are taken. Will you help me figure out a good one? Thanks!

Publichealthmother.com is available as of this afternoon… is that too boring? (Publichealthmom.com is taken, a decent, but not active blog)

How about Meandpublichealth.com?

Or… myfamilyandpublichealth.com?

Thanks in advance for your brainstorming help. It will be up and running soon! Wo Hoo!

I couldn’t resist a picture. Here is Eli helping me water the front yard. There’s nothing better than a chubby baby (95th Percentile!) chasing after you in nothing but a diaper.

Hey girl, I’m excited to see your new blog when it happens. As for names?? Hmm…To be honest, the words “public health” seem so distant and inaccessible to little ‘ol me…not the kind of blog that I see myself stopping at (if it wasn’t YOU, of course), however, the content of your blog most definitely sounds like something I would be interested in reading. So…I guess it is a matter of what kind of audience you’re looking for. Are you reaching out to other public health professionals? Or other mamas like myself that get frustrated with inaccurate, pharmaceutical-sponsored sites while trying to look for simple answers? Now, that being said, I pretty much stink at thinking of names. But maybe my comments will help generate ideas?? HOWEVER, I take ZERO offense of you ignore these comments altogether:) It is, after all, YOUR undertaking, and first and foremost, you have to make it YOURS and stay true to yourself. Love ya girl!

Oh, I forgot to refer you to this site. http://www.rixarixa.blogspot.com. It’s a public health blog that is based in natural parenting and a lot of attachment parenting. I don’t closely agree to ALL that she writes, but its pretty good. It doesn’t sound like her content is nearly as broad spectrumed (I think I made that word up…) as yours is going to be, though.

How about Publichealthmomma.com? Love the idea

myhealthyfamily.com or totalhealthyfamily.com? lovemyhealthybaby.com? Hmmm… I’ll have to keep thinking. Good idea- Way to go! I’ll look forward to seeing it soon!

What about AskThePublicHealthMom.com? Just an idea. Is there enough good stuff in the publichealthmom blog that you would want to buy it? If it’s not active it might not be too expensive. I’m working on a blog, too…trying to get more content in before I start sending people to it. I would love your feedback! http://www.ToddlerTeachingThemes.com. Oh, and I LOVE the picture–what a cutie!
